"The accumulation of all powers, legislative, executive, and judiciary, in the same hands, whether of one, a few, or many, and whether hereditary, self-appointed, or elective, may justly be pronounced the very definition of tyranny."
Tony Snow, Press Secretary for George W. Bush:
"...while the Supreme Court can be an arbiter of the Constitution, the fact is the President is the one, the only person who, by the Constitution, is given the responsibility to preserve, protect, and defend that document, so it is perfectly consistent with presidential authority under the Constitution itself."
The Noble Idiot:
“Bullshit.”
Funny thing about ol’ Dubya and his gang. They just love to interpret things. And if there’s anything we’ve learned from the Bible over the years, you can get a lot of bizarre interpretations from the same document.
BushCo believe in what they call a “Unitary Executive” - a President with enhanced powers (much like the X-Men), almost to the point of complete control over all branches of government.
There’s a word for such a thing. It’s called a king. And it’s everything that the Founding Fathers were trying to avoid. In other words, it’s pretty much the most un-American idea out there.
But go figure, Bush wants MORE power. Such a humble guy like him, why that just makes no darn sense...
Kinda puts that whole “This job would be easier if I was a dictator” comment into focus, doesn’t it?
"The interpretation of the laws is the proper and peculiar province of the courts ... It equally proves, that though individual oppression may now and then proceed from the courts of justice, the general liberty of the people can never be endangered from that quarter; I mean so long as the judiciary remains truly distinct from both the legislature and the Executive. For I agree, that there be no liberty, if the power of judging be not separated from the legislative and executive powers."
Nope, it sure doesn’t be.
